To understand where FunTrench is heading, its important to appreciate what has been done. The following pictures just give an idea of the developments that have taken place in the recent past.

Funtrench is back!

November 17th, 2009

Due to several inconveniences and major restructuring, we have been unavailable for quite a while. But Funtrench is still here ready to bring on the digital tomorrow. Stay tuned for news, updates and technology in action.

Work in progress!

October 7th, 2009

Hey everyone! Thank you for supporting Project Eden by downloading the various available versions of Eden at SourceForge as well as providing feedback. Project Eden is still on and more advanced versions are under development.

Eden now inside!

August 16th, 2009

Restructuring in Project Eden is underway to implement the “Eden Inside” style of deployment. The aim is to further ease and simplify software development which incorporates the Eden Framework.
Part of this restructuring involves inclusion of the Eden package within each MVC structure, in particular, the scripts directory. The latest files in the Project Eden repository at SourceForge reflect these changes. As a result, after downloading the SDK or any game, the next step is to run main.py as usual and everything is set as long as the apposite versions of Python and Panda are also installed. It is that simple!

MIDGE is next…

July 27th, 2009

Changes may be detrimental, have no effect or be beneficial to a venture. The forthcoming changes in Eden, as FunTrench PLC prepares to release it’s first commercial product-the MIDGE, best fit the latter case. To begin with, Eden will no longer be just a Python package in the Python installation but it will also become part of each game’s MVC structure with an executable provided to run the game. In addition, Eden will be distributed along with a minimal version of Panda3D ensuring that one installer gives everything needed to run a game which is consistent with Python’s “batteries included” philosophy. Eden developers and users, is this not a welcomed revelation?

The Memphis Integrated Development of Games Environment (MIDGE) is the next baby about to be born in the Project Eden Home. This IDE tremendously eases the development of games and 3D applications in Eden by providing a variety of wizards, templates and many other interesting features. Early August is the due release date starting with a Windows version.

A new game in the offing.

July 20th, 2009

The Project Eden Development Team is in the last stages in the creation of Eden Ludo 1.0 Alpha – the newest offering in the expanding collection of Eden games. This board game, which will soon be out, offers a colorful and exciting gaming experience as illustrated by the screen shots below.

Also, the latest version of the facilitative Eden Framework-Eden 0.2.0 Alpha-is now available at Project Eden repository. Public links have been availed to this repository at SourceForge due to the demanding process involved in the making and uploading installers. Hence, anyone can download the latest source files and install them manually. To access this repository, click here.

In conclusion, it is important to bring to the attention of Eden users the fact that Eden is already evolving beyond 0.2.0 with plans for a network subsystem to be implemented. Consequently, network multiplayer versions of Eden Ludo and other games will be supported.

Latest accomplishments revealed.

July 8th, 2009

Work never ceases at Funtrench PLC as the Eden Development Team continues to conceive, improve and implement new ideas. This is followed by rigorous testing to ascertain and maintain quality products. The just completed full-featured game, Eden Maze 1.0, is a manifestation of the implementation process and is to be released to game enthusiasts this week. Wizards and wild animals such as gorillas are incorporated in the game to make the experience more exciting. To avoid losing points while playing the game, one should not bump into walls, encounter bad wizards or gorillas! There is no need to fret as good wizards also exist who enable one to amass a bundle of points. The following screenshots give a glimpse of the game.

Another accomplishment is the successful completion of the Creation class page in the Funtrench Wiki. This page gives a tutorial on developing  applications in Eden and its aim is to provide the basics of any Eden application. Click here to go to this page and get further insight.

Lastly, a new series of articles in the Funtrench Journal known as Demystifying Eden has been introduced which provides brief and clear information on the Eden Framework and Eden SDK.
